Our History

About Image

Since 1991, the Student Centres have been at the heart of campus life at York.

Built and run by students, for students, we are an autonomous, not-for-profit organization that manages more than 175,000 square feet of student space across two buildings.

The First Student Centre opened in 1991, becoming a hub for clubs, services, and food options. The Second Student Centre, completed in 2018, expanded our capacity with event venues, lounges, and dedicated spaces for cultural, wellness, and community activities.

This means when you walk through our doors, you’re entering a space shaped by generations of York students who fought for better services, stronger communities, and a true home on campus.
