POSTERING/BANNERS

The York University Student Centre (YUSC) supports the ability of York University student associations and other recognized campus groups to communicate activities, events and ideas through banners, posters and handbills in the Student Centre. The purpose of this policy is to ensure accessibility to appropriate poster spaces to communicate student activities while protecting the broad interests of the community and, in particular, the interests and obligations of the YUSC.

For Postering:

General Guidelines:

  • Poster only in designated spaces.
  • You must include the sponsoring party and contact information.
  • You must date your posters.
  • You must have office 335 approve your poster which is notified by YUSC stamp.
  • Priority is given to events held on campus.

What is Permitted:

  • Postering on cork boards.
  • Flat flyers up to 22″ x 17″.
  • Postering over flyers of past events.
  • Postering over non-approved flyers.
  • Postering over flyers that haven’t been stamped by YUSC.

What is Not Permitted:

  • Tearing down other approved posters or postering over them.
  • Postering outside designated areas eg. on doors, staircases, pillars, windows, main doorways.
  • Postering over current flyers.

For Banners:

General Guidelines:

  • Banners can be hung from the skylight railings at the third and fourth floor of the Student Centre, by rope or string only.
  • Banners are designed primarily to identify clubs who have offices in the Student Centre.
  • Clubs may put up special event banners for up to two week prior to the event.
  • You must have office 335 approve your banner before it is constructed.
  • Priority is given to events held on campus.

What is Permitted:

  • Banners made from fire-resistant material.
  • General Information banner should be a maximum of 3’x5’.
  • Special event banners should be a maximum of 3’x10’.

What is Not Permitted:

  • Constructing banners on non fire-resistance paper.
  • Hanging banners by tape.
  • Moving another association’s banner.
  • Putting up a banner without prior approval from YUSC.
