Office Space

York University Student Centre (YUSC) has a limited number of office spaces available for student clubs and organizations officially recognized by the office of Student Community and Leader Development (SC&LD) and/or the York Federation of Students (YFS). There are more student clubs and organizations than available office spaces. Since office space is in high demand, it is allocated annually. All clubs/organizations interested in obtaining an office must fill out an Office Application Form. Clubs/organizations that currently have an office in the First Student Centre or the Second Student Center buildings – with the exception of student services – must reapply each year.

  • Recognition by the office of Student Community & Leadership Development (SC&LD) and/or the York Federation of Students (YFS)
  • Club activity adherence to the YUSC, SC&LD, other York University policies, and applicable civil regulations
  • Services provided to York community and external community
  • Regular use of office (if applicable)
  • Accessibility needs for members with disabilities
  • Size of membership
  • Any extenuating circumstances that were specified on the application form for the committee to consider. Please note: membership size, activity or intended use of space does not qualify as extenuating circumstance.
  • Other such criteria as determined by YUSC

To ensure that applications are reviewed in an objective and fair manner they are evaluated primarily on a matrix system which weights events quantitatively to develop quantitative comparators. Other qualitative information is used as a secondary consideration only.

  • Club office application forms become available by the first Monday of March
  • Student clubs/organizations must submit completed application forms to the Student Centre Office by the established deadline
  • The allocations committee convenes to process application forms and determine office allocation
  • Office allocations are announced in mid May
  • All offices are vacated by the last Friday in April

Acquiring Office Space Elsewhere on Campus

In order to get space in the Scott Religious Centre, your club must be a member of the Inter-Faith Council. Spaces in the Scott Religious Centre are allocated by the Centre for Student Community and Leadership Development (SC&LD). In addition, student clubs/organizations wishing to obtain office space on campus may apply to a college or departmental office for consideration.
